How did you attract/address your audience?

As a producer and director I feel that my thriller will appeal to all types of people as not every individual can be categorised. That being said, there are certain groups, which I feel will that, my thriller will appeal more to.

Our target audience are between the ages of 15-25, yet the thriller opening can appeal to older audiences that experience the issues shown within our thriller.

One specific group that I feel that will be attracted to our thriller more are women. This is mainly due to our female protagonist playing a role where she is abused by her lover and becomes the survivor and heroine. As the thriller portrays her side of the story by following her throughout the thriller, and using point of view shots to help the audience relate and see the danger through her eyes. This leads the audience to despise the antagonist as they sympathise for the protagonist.

We chose our target audience between the age ranges of 15-25 year olds, as we wanted to enlighten the young adults that are more likely to get into dangerous relationships where they may experience abuse by both sexes. The younger group of our target audience may find it disturbing to watch especially in the last few shots of our opening thriller, where the antagonist confronts the protagonist. This is because it is implied that the antagonist will harm the protagonist but the slow track camera movement when the door is slammed. This type of shot is used often in thriller and horror films to create suspense and reel the audience in for a cliff-hanger or to keep them entertained and anxious to keep watching.

How does your media product represent particular social groups?

 The groups represented in our film are the working class, and ethnic minorities. We have a female protagonist in our psychological thriller; even though this is a convention of psychological thrillers it isn’t familiar to see a female lead character across the every genre of the film industry. Regardless, overall our female protagonist still plays up to the conventions of female’s representation within the media today. She is still dominated by a man, and even though she is the heroine, she is still interpreted as a victim.  This is shown through the many shots where she is running away from someone (the antagonist). Within the thriller opening she is seen doing domestic tasks around the house, that again, show how she fits the general gender stereotype of females being housewives.

The antagonist also integrates with the typical conventions represented in the media. This male portrays the stereotype of a man who is aggressive towards women and is the dominant figure in the relationship. Men are often shown as violent and tough; this is reflected in the media by many characters such as Al Pacino, Tony Montana, The Terminator, Rocky Balboa, Rambo and James Bond. The difference between the antagonist and these male characters is their cause and how the audience views them. Unlike my character those characters are shot in a way where they become likable and relatable to the audience. Whereas my antagonist is tainted in a way that he becomes hated by the audience, as they view the thriller through the eyes of protagonist.

Using an actor from an ethnic minority comes with the stereotypes where black males are often misinterpreted in the media with negative and violent roles as villains, and criminals. When creating the plot of the thriller we weren’t intending to portray ethnic stereotypes at all as we didn’t have a specific ethnicity in mind for our characters. We chose those who were available and suitable with the skills for the roles. However, we later realised the use of diversity may attract our audience as we wanted to reflect the familiarity of the multicultural London life.

Uses Of New Media & Promotion

Location Recce

When we first had a rough idea of what we wanted our film to be like, we decided a few locations to film it. We thought that when our actress needs to look at an offer that reminds of her of a moment, which takes the audience to a flashback; we thought that we should film it in Harrow shopping centre. Harrow shopping centre consists of St Ann's, and St George's. These were are first locations for that scene.

We also thought that for our chase scene we could do it at the park next our school, Centenary Park in Stanmore. We thought this was best fit for our scene as it had lots of space for the chase scene , usually empty and looks very gloomy.

However we came to realise that the harrow shopping centre was too public and has many extraneous variables that could affect  our filming and make it very difficult for us. We also needed permission from the council to film in the shopping centre. Moreover the distance between the Park and the shopping centre became an issue for us.

So we thought of another location which could be more beneficial to us. My partner  has relatives that own a beauty shop in harrow wealdstone and right next to that ,she had  relative who owned a flat that we could use. There was also an alley way nearby to use for our chase scene. We had 3 locations in one which made it so much easier to film. We only needed permission for the relatives who willingly let us use their shop and flat.

 Here is the final shotlist that me and my friend used for our film. It was very important as it helped us film smoothly and quickly with no hesitation about what shot that we're supposed to film next.

Equipment

Choice of Equipment: school camcorder, Sony HD camcorder, Galaxy S4, Galaxy S3 or Samsung Camera, and standard tripod.

School camcorder, had limited pace, and we didn't feel comfortable using it. Our phones had good cameras to record, but space would've been a problem. As well as using a certain type of tripod to do specific shots with our phone this isn't available. The Samsung camera was good however; it ran on 4 AA batteries, which seem to run out with a short period of time, so it wasn't as efficient we wanted it to be. The Sony camcorder, produced good video quality, was easy to use, able to fit on the tripod had great flexibility for us e.g. flip screen. So we chose this camera to record the opening of our film.

This is the first draft of the script. The scenes take place in harrow wealdstone, harrow on the hill & kenton. This is a rough idea of how we want the storyline to be like; a girl being stalked by her lover.

Influential Directors

One of the most famous and greatest directors of all time was Alfred Hitchcock. He is known to be the “master of suspense” and known for his Horror & Thriller films. One of his most famous films is Psycho, which is a psychological thriller shot in black & white.

 Steven Spielberg is another famous influential director whose net worth is around 3.6 billion USD. He is most known for his films such as E.T, Jurassic Parks, and a thriller classic, Jaws.

          

 Quentin Tarantino is another influential director. He is known for his non-linear narratives in most of his films. He has made successful films such as Django Unchained, Pulp Fiction, Kill Bill Collection, &  the Sin City collection.

Idents ( Creating my own )

The title that me and my partner decided to use for are ident is Shocker Productions. We chose this name because we are doing a thriller name and it's something that is easy to remember and produce an ident for. I did some research on how to create titles and idents on youtube.

Here is a 3D title that has a fire effect, If i chose this as an ident it would give a big entrance to my film and that''s not what i'm looking for however, it's good to have experience and gain extra knowledge on how to produce something like this.

I like the way the ident is produced in this video, however it's not the atmosphere i want in for my opening thriller. I need something that represents my film. However i could consider this an option if i am unable to find a good way of presenting my ident.

After watching this video, this is something that i really want to do for my ident, by blending 2 videos to give another effect. It's very clever and a unique way to present your ident.

I did further research on using free videos to create my ident with, and i found a site called videezy.com. It's a website which is free for anyone to use, but mainly people interested in filming use. It provides free copyright films, which is shared internationally by anyone who films anything.

I found 2 possible videos to use in my ident.

The first video i found was of a moon in a pitch black atmosphere next to a tree. This is a suggestible choice as it brings a gloomy effect.

 I kept searching for different videos to use and found one that suits my title "Shocker Productions".  This video is of a lightning storm in Sweden which someone filmed. It has the perfect atmosphere for my ident and is very likely going to be used.
